D-Day News (2014) Audio

Benedict reads the original D-Day news about the landing of the Allied forces at Normandy’s coastline.

On 6 June 1944 the Allied forces landed in the Normandy.

The BBC celebrated this historical event with a special news series: All original radio news from these days have been broadcasted again.

70 years later, at the exact the same time, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, Sir Patrick Stewart revoiced the news bulletin script as part of a series of anniversary events commemorating this important date.

Thousands visited the historic beaches, villages and cemeteries to remember the historic landing. The highlight of the celebrations took place on Sword Beach near Ouistreham, one of the five battle zones on Normandy’s coastline. In the presence of several heads of state from around the world – among others Queen Elizabeth II and U.S. President Barack Obama – the 70-year anniversary of this significant event was celebrated.
