Roy Smiles “Good Evening – A Celebration of the Beyond the Fringe Team” is a production for BBC Radio 4, which takes a funny and loving look at the four young men from Oxford, who have significantly influenced the landscape of British comedy.
The parts are played by: Benedict Cumberbatch as Dudley Moore, Rory Kinnear as Peter Cook, Matt Addis as Alan Bennett and Jonathan Aris as Jonathan Miller.
Beyond the Fringe was a British stage cabaret, which was written and performed by Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller in the 1960s. The show consisting of comedy sketches, initially played in Edinburgh, where it was met with restraint by audiences and critics. It was only when the show moved to London’s West End that it became a sensation and was premiered in the same year on Broadway in New York. There it ran until 1966 and was attended among others by John F. Kennedy.
Peter Cook wrote almost all the sketches for the show, while Dudley Moore backed the show with this music and satirical songs which were added to the program.
