What is it about:
The TV drama shows the early career of physicist Stephen Hawking during his time at Cambridge University. During the celebration of his 21st birthday Hawking suffers a sudden full-body paralysis and is taken to hospital. He learns that he is suffering from ALS (Motor Neuron Disease), a degenerative disease of the motor nervous system, leading to progressive, irreversible paralysis and amyotrophia. Nevertheless, he manages with tedious efforts to refute Fred Hoyle’s equilibrium theory (which Hoyle developed as an alternative to the Big Bang theory).

A very interesting interview with Benedict about his role and Stephen Hawking: Hawking BBC.
