Richard III (2016) Upcoming Projects
Benedict as Richard, Duke of Gloucester who does everything in his power to accede the english throne.
|As part of BBC2’s Shakespeare project Benedict Cumberbatch will take the lead as Richard III in their TV-Adaptation of Shakespeare’s play. Neal Street Productions that have already produced the successful first series of Shakespeare’s history plays (Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V) under the title The Hollow Crown will again be in charge of the production. Judi Dench (Cecily, Duchess of York), Keeley Hawes (Queen Elizabeth) and Sophie Okonedo (Queen Margaret) will star alongside Benedict.
Apart from Richard III the second series will also include Henry VI, in 2 parts. The adaptations are currently in pre-production. Further information on casting and filming will follow in due course.
What is happening in Richard III:
Richard, Duke of Gloucester, has set his sight on the throne. He is determined to become King of England and is prepared to use murder and intrigues to make this happen. After all relatives and nobles who might stop him are eliminated, only his nephew Edward V and Richard, Duke of York, (both entitled to become king) as well as his brother, the Duke of Clarence remain. He has them murdered in cold blood. Nothing and no one can stop him any more. With the help of the devoted Duke of Buckingham, he finally achieved his goal: As Richard III he accedes the throne of England.
But meanwhile, an opposing party under the leadership of Henry, Earl of Richmond has formed in France, and is prepared for a war against Richard III…
