The Fifth Estate is a film about the early days of WikiLeaks and its founder Julian Assange. The film is partly based on Daniel Domscheit-Berg’s book “Inside WikiLeaks: My Time with Julian Assange at the World’s Most Dangerous Website” and on the other site on the book “WikiLeaks: Inside Julian Assange’s War on Secrecy” by the two British journalists David Leigh and Luke Harding.

The Fifth Estate, whose first announced title was “The Man Who Sold The World”, is a co-production of DreamWorks and Participant Media, directed by award-winning Bill Condon (he received the Oscar in 1999 for Best Adapted Screenplay for Gods and Monsters).

Expected release date is 18th of October in USA, Germany: 31st of October 2013.

Benedict Cumberbatch plays the role of the charismatic founder Julian Assange.

What is it about:
It is the story of the beginnings of the most famous and most dangerous website in the world, WikiLeaks, and its founder Julian Assange. From the perspective of Daniel Domscheit-Berg, Assange’s business partner, co-founder and former friend, the film tells the rise of its founder, the explosiveness of his idea and its implementation as the platform “WikiLeaks”, a website that suddenly and for the first time published high-security data to the world, so that everybody could have a view upon top secrets and information which have been hidden behind closed doors until then.

Assange and his partner revolutionized the international flow of information, but the ideological and ethical views of the two drifted more and more apart until it finally came to a crisis. After the publication of several controversial and history-making, high-secret data, it came to an abrupt end of the friendship…
