What is happening in Tipping the Velvet?
Set in England in the early 1890s, the story follows Nan Astley (Rachel Stirling), a young girl who works as a cook and waitress in her father’s restaurant. One day she sees Kitty Butler (Keeley Hawes), a famous actress of men’s parts, Nan realizes that she feels more attracted to women than to men. For the charismatic main character begins a colorful and passionate journey in a series of lesbian adventures, which ultimately ends in the realization that a life consisting only of excitement and sensation is not enough.
